at 100 miles per hour! |
The tortoise and the hare. Everyone
knows the story of how the fast hare took a nap and lost the race.
Very few people know what happened after that.
In Justin Potemkin and the 500 Mile Race the rest of the
story is revealed.
Despite numerous attempts to do so, the poor hare family hadn’t
won a race against the tortoise family EVER.
And then, along came Justin Potemkin.
Justin lived in Russia and was a descendant of the first racing
hare. Justin swore that one
day, he would beat a tortoise in a speed contest of some kind.
When the Czar decided to sponsor an international automobile race,
Justin saw his opportunity. Unfortunately,
the Czar was a cheater. He
always won and always awarded second place to his buddy Lenin Tortoise.
Frustrated, Justin immigrated to America.
He formed a racing team with American driver Flamingo Joe and won
race after race. But
Justin still wanted one more shot at the tortoise.
And so it was that the first Indianapolis 500 was run.
The Tortoise and the Hare at 100 miles per hour.
